Poland – United Kingdom: the pros and cons of economic cooperation following the first half of 2026

Economic cooperation between Poland and the UK remains a key element of European trade. Following the first half of 2026, there are both growing business opportunities and challenges facing companies operating in both markets.

Key advantages

  • Growing trade potential – Polish companies are increasingly actively seeking customers in the UK market, whilst the UK remains an attractive destination for Polish exports.
  • A large consumer market – the UK offers a broad customer base and a well-developed retail, wholesale and B2B sector. Particular opportunities exist in areas such as food, beverages, FMCG products, industry and services.
  • Competitiveness of Polish products – the quality, variety and competitive prices of many Polish products create favourable conditions for further expansion into the UK market.
  • Growth in B2B cooperation – companies are increasingly using digital platforms, trade intermediaries and modern logistics solutions to find business partners more easily and grow their sales.

Key challenges

  • Formalities and regulations – trade between the EU and the UK requires greater attention in terms of documentation, customs clearance, product requirements and tax regulations.
  • Transport and logistics costs – distance, border procedures and fluctuating transport costs may affect a product’s overall competitiveness.
  • Differences in regulations and standards – businesses must carefully analyse the requirements applicable in the UK market, particularly in the food and FMCG sectors.

Poland and the UK – the way forward

Data from the Central Statistical Office (GUS) show that in the first half of 2026, total Polish exports rose by 4.6 per cent and imports by 5.1 per cent year-on-year. At the same time, exports of agri-food products increased by 1.8 per cent, reaching a value of PLN 123.1 billion.

This demonstrates that, despite changing economic conditions, international trade continues to offer businesses significant opportunities for growth.

For Polish producers, exporters and wholesalers, the UK remains a market worth paying attention to. However, the key to success lies not only in an attractive product, but also in market knowledge, the right business partner, efficient logistics and professional preparation of the export process.
